Finding Gajin Size Suits

Tonami City, Toyama: Does not have a huge range of fashion at its fingertips when it comes to variety, so I get dragged reluctantly to a wedding palace. In Japan it is common to be making weekly payment while your daughter is in school so you can afford a wedding when she finds Mr. Right. As we got married back in Australia, my wife’s mum wants to cash out and decided we could just hire something from the wedding palace to wear.
A Japanese wedding palace is a nutshell is an uncomfortable and over formalized place. I do not recommend going, even if you are asked. Due to my 206 centimeter height, they had nothing to fit there and nothing anywhere in their other stores to fit. Because of the fabrics and patterns they showed me, I was really not happy and the prices were way to high for a few hours hire.
So the next port of call was a menswear chain store called Aoki, same thing nothing to fit in store, really bad fabrics, cuts of suit and a pushy salesperson telling me how everything suited me. But he ignored what I told him what I wanted, not skin tight pants!
Out the door to my supposed last chance in our City, Aoyama Suit was the store we pulled up at and went inside. The staff came and said hello and to call them if we needed anything, I like that in a salesperson as pressure really annoys most of us. Prices were good when you can get two suits and four pairs of pants for 60,000 yen; they had gaijinJapanese word meaning "outsider" commonly used to describe foreigners. Considered somewhat impolite. “World Size” too, which took a load off my mind. Tailoring was free, I got my name embroidered inside my suit jacket, an Aoyama loyalty card, my four pairs of pants taken up and a call up to come back when it was all ready. The suit was a perfect cut and fit, so I was really pleased to find Aoyama and relaxed sales staff.
I recommend if you’re after a Gaijin size suit, find you’re closest Aoyama and you will look great.
